Buenos Aires is known for its strong Italian roots. In the early 20th century, millions of Italians emigrated to our country, bringing their knowledge and traditions, including expertise in making ice cream. Coincidentally, Italy’s ice cream industry was undergoing industrialization with new artificial flavors. However, Argentina’s economic struggles limited imports of these flavors. This, in turn, preserved Argentina’s focus on high-quality, artisanal ice cream made with fresh ingredients like fruits, milk, eggs, and chocolate.
Living in Argentina, I savored their delicious artisanal ice cream. Inspired by this experience, during one of my many visits to New York City, the idea struck me: to create a destination for the finest artisanal ice cream in this world-class city. In 1998, Cones Ice Cream Artisans was born, becoming the first New York retail establishment to introduce Argentinian artisanal ice cream and setting new standards for the city’s ice cream scene.

Since opening our doors, all of Cones’ ice cream has been made fresh on-site daily, using the small-batch method for the ultimate in flavor and quality.

We never use pre-made mixes – we craft our own unique recipe for each ice cream flavor from scratch. Only the freshest, hand-selected fruits (no pastes here!) and hand-squeezed juices find their way into our creations. These real ingredients create subtle variations in flavor – sometimes the lemons are a touch tarter, or the cantaloupes a bit sweeter. We embrace these variations, as they remind our customers that they’re indulging in the genuine article.
